A Day Exploring Split

Split is Croatia's second largest city and is filled with centuries-old architecture and home to one of the Adriatic's greatest waterfronts. If you've got a day to explore Split, either before or after your Yacht Week adventure then be sure to make the most of this beautiful city. Here are some of our top things to do with your time in Split.

   

The number one thing to do in Split is visit Diocletian's Palace - and trust me it will not disappoint. It was an ancient palace built for the Roman Emperor Diocletian in the fourth century AD, that today forms about half the old town of Split and it is now protected as a World Heritage UNESCO site. The city has evolved in and around the palace with people still living in some of the building and other parts being turned into restaurants, shops, museums and hotels. You'll need a couple of hours to explore the palace and make sure not to miss the Cathedral of St. Dominus.

   

Spend some time wandering around the Old Town and exploring everything this enchanting city has to offer. But one thing you must remember when meandering the streets...Try. All. The. Gelato. Trust us, you can't just try one place as every single gelato place has so many different and unique flavours that you don't want to miss out on (for example, Mozzarella and Tomato flavour)!

     

If you've had all the culture you need for one day then fear not - the shopping in Split is great. With cute boutique stores within the walls of the palace to the best Zara in the world (we may be biased) and all the high street shopping you could want.

In the evening take a walk along the Riva to see the wonderful food carts, street performers and a beautiful sunset. There are many different restaurants to choose from along the walk, all with a gorgeous view and even more gorgeous food. If you want to carry on your evening then you can find many cocktail bars back in the Old Town with stunning scenery set within all the old architecture.

Oh and one last thing, do NOT miss Froggyland. It will be the best museum you ever visit, and the best 100 kuna you ever spent. Just do it.
